The Wimbledon Society Newsletter appears quarterly in March, June, September and December.
It aims to cover all aspects of the work of the Society and to keep members informed about activities organised by the Society as well as outside events or occasions which may also be of interest.
Regular features are the Chairman's Report and the Planning pages which report on the many issues of concern to local residents which are vital in maintaining the character and amenities of Wimbledon. Merton Council's Local Development Framework (LDF) is also closely monitored. The Local History Group records the topics that have arisen during their monthly meetings (first Friday of the month) and their Chairman provides us with special features from time to time. There is usually a contribution from the Museum on its work, acquisitions, exhibitions or new publications - such as their recent publishing scoop, the reissuing of Sphairistike or The Rules of Lawn Tennis, which is now available from the Museum.
The newsletter also brings information on our programme of Activities which include lectures, walks and excursions. Books are reviewed and special book events are covered - such as Nelson: New Letters launched by Colin White, Coordinator of Trafalgar 2005, in St Mary's Church, Merton on the 200 year anniversary of Nelson's final departure from Merton on 12 September 1805. In 2007, William Hague's biography William Wilberforce: The Life of the Great Anti-Slave Campaigner was launched by the Society in Polka Theatre to coincide with the bi-centenary of the dramatic events of 1807 that paved the way for the eventual abolition of the Slave Trade.
